Wisconsin Import Requirements 11/2006 WISCONSIN AQUACULTURE VETERINARIANS (pdf)
What does this mean for
imports to Wisconsin?
As before the Federal Order, it is the importers
responsibility to contact us to determine what we require to import to our
state. For example, if the import is for walleye (a VHS susceptible species)
from Minnesota they need to contact Wisconsin's regulating authority, our
Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection (DATCP) to get
the requirements for VHS testing. Then they need to use an aquaculture
veterinarian or fish health inspector to submit appropriate samples to a
laboratory that is approved by DATCP for VHS testing. Then based on the results
of the VHS testing they issue a health certificate and submit an original copy
to DATCP. Then DATCP will review the certificate along with the request for
import and a Veterinary Fish Health Assessment Report. We will grant or deny an
application for a Fish Import Permit within 30 days after receiving a completed
application. For information on applying for a Fish Import Permit, click here
